Love McLeodganj as we might, there is no getting away from the fact that the place can be chaotic, crowded, and less than wholly hygienic. How wonderful, then, that there is a haven of peace, elegance, clean food and excellent coffee, right in the heart of it all. Moonpeak Espresso café and Moonpeak Thali restaurant, located side by side on Temple Road, offer a place to relax, refuel, do some wi-fi (it’s free), browse a magazine or two, make some new  friends, and while away a few pleasant hours. There is always an interesting exhibition on the walls to entertain your eyes, and an eclectic selection of music to stimulate your mood.

Moonpeak was the first café to offer Italian-style espresso in McLeodganj, and because we train our baristas and monitor our quality constantly, the coffee is still the best in town. Sip on a latte, a cappuccino or a macchiato just as you would at home, or mellow out with a pot of locally grown herbal tea. The restaurant menu is as authentic and unusual as you’ll find anywhere in India – for example, we’re the only place in town to offer home-style Himachali dishes such as madhra, karhi and makandwadi. There is also a range of classic tandoori dishes, and innovative meals such as mango chicken. If you’re after something lighter, sample a sandwich or a cake from the café menu, or luxuriate in a well-washed salad.
